Violin Lessons : Class 7 - String Crossings

For those who are just starting to take violin lessons, you will only be using the middle third portion of your bow to play. Place your bow on the bridge of the violin (the area after the fingerboard ends). The position of your upper arm, lower arm, shoulders and bow should be in a position that forms a square. The position of your arms and the bow should be locked at all times. When you need to change positions, you should only use the joints of your right shoulder.

Place the middle are of the bow on the A string. Slowly glide the bow down and then up (remember by just moving your shoulder joints). After that, lower your arms so that your bow now rests on the E string. Slowly glide the bow down again and then up. Then move back to the A string (by raising your arms again). Practice this sequence several times till you can play the notes accurately. This will train your muscle memory to remember the position of the A and E strings.
